Theory of Change (ToC) is an increasingly valued approach to understand, plan for and measure complex social change. Strategies become more effective through the articulation of pathways of change and the underlying assumptions and the contribution to change can be more easily measured.

Context is everything in a Theory of Change, and combining as many perspectives as possible contributes to a solid, well sustained theory. My approach to ToC development and review preferably involves getting all relevant parties around the table and engaging in an inclusive dialogue leading to a shared understanding of how change comes about. This is best done in a face-to-face setting, but, if necessary, the process can take place through participatory online sessions.

A final product typically features a visual depiction of the change process and an explanatory narrative, often accompanied by a strategic approach.
